The Casket Lottery è un gruppo indie rock formatosi a Kansas City, Missouri, nel 1997. Il nucleo del gruppo è costituito da Nathan Ellis (voce) e Stacy (chitarra), che si sono conosciuti durante le tournée di Coalesce, band hardcore/metal con cui Ellis suonava prima di formare The Casket Lottery. La formazione è completata da Nathan "Junior" Richardson (batteria), entrato nel gruppo all'età di 15 anni. The Casket Lottery ha intrapreso numerose tournè negli Stati Uniti, condividendo il palco con band come Reflector, Small Brown Bike, Rocky Votolato, Proudentall e Limbeck. Il gruppo ha pubblicato diversi album e cassette, tra cui "Diver" e "Dot,Dot". Nel 2006, The Casket Lottery si è messo in pausa per permettere ai membri di dedicarsi a progetti personali. Nathan Ellis ha formato i gruppi Jackie Carol e Able Baker Fox, mentre Nathan Richardson ha suonato con Appleseed Cast. Entrambi i Nathans sono tornati a suonare con Coalesce dopo la sua reunion.
