Protest the Hero ist eine kanadische Band aus dem Genre Progressive Metal/Mathcore aus Whitby, Ontario. Die Band wurde 1999 gegründet und die Mitglieder haben seitdem ihre Formation beibehalten. Ursprünglich nannten sie sich Happy Go Lucky, änderten aber ihren Namen, bevor sie ihre erste EP *A Calculated Use of Sound* veröffentlichten, gefolgt von ihrem Debütalbum *Kezia*, das vom unabhängigen Label Underground Operations veröffentlicht wurde. Am 23. Januar 2006 unterzeichnete die Band offiziell einen Vertrag mit Vagrant Records für die Veröffentlichung von *Kezia* in den Vereinigten Staaten, die am 4. April 2006 erfolgte. Ihr zweites Studioalbum *Fortress* wurde am 29. Januar 2008 offiziell von Underground Operations in Kanada und von Vagrant Records weltweit veröffentlicht.
