Son Volt è un gruppo musicale statunitense di genere alternative country, formatosi nel 1994 a Chicago da Jay Farrar, ex membro degli Uncle Tupelo. Dopo lo scioglimento di quest'ultimo, Farrar ha riunito alcuni musicisti per dare vita a Son Volt, che hanno subito riscosso successo con il loro album d'esordio "Trace" (1995). Il sound del gruppo è caratterizzato da un mix di country rock, folk e psichedelia, influenzato da artisti come Neil Young, The Byrds e Gram Parsons. Tra i brani più rappresentativi di Son Volt figurano "Drown", "Windfall" e "The World Won't End".
