Woods of Ypres ist eine kanadische Black Doom Metal Band aus Ontario. Gegründet 2001 vom Sänger und Gitarristen David Gold, veröffentlichte die Band sechs Studioalben, die Einflüsse des atmosphärischen Black Metals mit Elementen des klassischen Doom Metals und Post-Rock kombinieren. Ihr Sound zeichnet sich durch düstere und melancholische Atmosphären, introspective Texte, die Themen wie Tod, Trauer und Spiritualität erforschen, sowie eine kraftvolle und komplexe musikalische Ausführung aus. 2013 erschien "Woods V: The Great Dismal", das als eines ihrer reifsten und einflussreichsten Werke gilt. Gold war auch für seine theatralischen und fesselnden Live-Performances bekannt. 2017 löste sich Woods of Ypres nach dem Tod von David Gold auf.
