Echo and the Bunnymen sind eine britische Rockband aus Liverpool, die 1978 gegründet wurde. Die ursprüngliche Besetzung bestand aus Ian McCulloch (Gesang), Will Sergeant (Gitarre) und Les Pattinson (Bass). Pete de Freitas stieß später als Schlagzeuger zum Band hinzu. Ihr Debütalbum *Crocodiles* erschien 1980, gefolgt von *Heaven Up Here* im Jahr 1981. Beide Alben wurden von der Kritik gefeiert und trugen dazu bei, den Ruf der Band in der britischen Independent-Musikszene zu festigen. 1983 erreichten sie mit dem Single *The Cutter*, der aus dem Album *Porcupine* stammt, Platz eins der Charts. Dieses Album erreichte Platz zwei der Charts und wurde von weiteren erfolgreichen Singles wie *Never Stop* und *The Killing Moon* gefolgt, die zum Markenzeichen der Band wurden.
