I Dead Kennedys sono una band punk americana formatasi a San Francisco negli anni '70. Conosciuti per il loro stile musicale provocatorio e le liriche politichemente impegnate, hanno raggiunto un'enorme popolarità nell'underground musicale degli anni '80. Il loro album di debutto, *Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables* (1980), conteneva singoli iconici come «California Über Alles» e «Holiday in Cambodia», che li resero famosi a livello internazionale. Nel 1981 il singolo «Too Drunk to Fuck» raggiunse addirittura le classifiche britanniche. Nel 1985, l'album *Frankenchrist* suscitò controversie per la copertina ispirata ad un dipinto di H.R. Giger, accusando la band di distribuzione di materiale osceno ai minori. Il processo che ne seguì terminò con una giuria incapace di raggiungere un verdetto, ma le pressioni legali portarono alla dissoluzione del gruppo.
