Overkill ist eine amerikanische Thrash-Metal-Band, die 1980 in New Jersey gegründet wurde. Aktiv seit 1984 haben sie 15 Studioalben, 2 EPs, 2 Live-Alben und ein Coveralbum veröffentlicht. Die Band verfügt über einen bemerkenswerten Maskottchen (genannt Chaly), einen Skelettfledermaus mit einem Schädelgesicht, knochigen Flügeln und grünen Augen, der auf den meisten ihrer Albumcover erscheint. Overkill hat viele Besetzungswechsel durchgemacht, wobei der Sänger Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth und der Bassist D.D. Verni als Gründungsmitglieder geblieben sind. Zusammen mit Anthrax (dessen ehemaliger Leadsänger Dan Spitz auch ein früheres Mitglied von Overkill war) ist die Band eine der erfolgreichsten Thrash-Metal-Bands an der Ostküste der USA. Zu den repräsentativen Stücken gehören: "Hello From the Gutter", "Elimination", "The Grinding Wheel".
