Die 10,000 Maniacs sind eine amerikanische Alternative-Rock-Band, die 1981 in Jamestown, New York, gegründet wurde. Der Bandname stammt aus einem Satz aus einem Gedichtband von Emily Dickinson. Die ursprüngliche Besetzung bestand aus Natalie Merchant (Gesang), John Lombardo (Gitarre), Dennis Drew (Keyboard) und Steven Gustafson (Schlagzeug). Ihr Sound zeichnete sich durch eingängige Melodien, poetische Texte und komplexe Arrangements aus, die Elemente des Folk-, Alternative-Rocks und Pop-Genres vermischten. Nach einer Reihe von Independent-Alben erreichten die 10,000 Maniacs mit dem Album *In My Tribe* (1987) – das den Hit *These Are Days* enthielt – den kommerziellen Durchbruch.
