Sananda Maitreya, all'anagrafe Terence Trent Howard, è un cantautore e polistrumentista statunitense nato nel 1962. Noto al grande pubblico come Terence Trent D'Arby, ha raggiunto la fama negli anni '80 con il suo stile musicale che fonde soul, funk, jazz e rock. Il suo album di debutto, *Introducing the Hardest Working Man in Show Business*, pubblicato nel 1987, è stato un successo internazionale, grazie a brani come "Sign Your Name" e "Wishing Well". Nel corso della sua carriera, D'Arby ha esplorato diversi generi musicali, passando dal jazz al gospel. Nel 1990 ha cambiato il suo nome in Sananda Maitreya, dichiarando di volersi allontanare dall'immagine commerciale che aveva acquisito.
