Franz Ferdinand è un gruppo musicale scozzese formatosi a Glasgow nel 2002. Il loro sound, definito indie rock con influenze post-punk e art rock, ha conquistato rapidamente l'attenzione della critica e del pubblico internazionale. Il nome del gruppo deriva dall'arciduca Francesco Ferdinando d'Austria, la cui ascesa al potere scatenò la Prima Guerra Mondiale. 2004 vide la pubblicazione del loro album di debutto omonimo, che ottenne un enorme successo grazie a brani come "Take Me Out" e "The Dark of the Matinee". Il secondo album, "You Could Have It So Much Better", uscito nel 2005, consolidò il loro status di band di culto.
