Bane è una band hardcore punk formatasi a Worcester, Massachusetts, negli anni '90. Il nucleo originario era composto da Aaron Dalbec (ex Converge) e Damon Bellardo, che iniziarono come progetto parallelo. Dopo un breve periodo con Matt Firestone al microfono, la formazione si stabilizzò con l'ingresso di Aaron Bedard (ex Backbone). Nel 1996 uscì il loro primo EP, seguito da numerosi concerti nel Massachusetts centrale. Il successo locale li portò a registrare l'EP *Free To Think, Free To Be* nel 1997 e l'album *Holding This Moment* nel 1998, che segnò anche il loro primo tour negli Stati Uniti.
