X-Ray Spex sono stati un gruppo musicale britannico attivo tra la fine degli anni '70 e l'inizio degli anni '80. Considerati uno dei pilastri del movimento punk rock, hanno raggiunto una certa notorietà grazie al loro stile musicale caratterizzato da ritmi veloci, testi provocatori e l'influenza della musica ska. La band era guidata dalla carismatica Poly Styrene, cantante e frontwoman di origine nigeriana-britannica, la cui voce potente e i suoi testi spesso ironici e satirici hanno contribuito a definire l'immagine del gruppo. Il loro album di debutto, *Germ Free Adolescents* (1978), pubblicato per la EMI, è considerato un classico del punk rock e ha raggiunto il successo commerciale in Gran Bretagna. Tra i brani più noti del gruppo figurano «Oh Bondage! Up Yours!!», «Identity» e «The Day the World Turned Day-Glo».
