Dissection è stata una band di black/death metal svedese, formatasi a Strømstad nel 1989 da Jon Nodtveidt. Considerati pionieri del genere black metal atmosferico, Dissection hanno pubblicato il loro primo EP nel 1991 e sono diventati noti per la loro musica complessa, melodica e oscura, influenzata dal romanticismo gotico e dalla filosofia occulta. Tra i brani più rappresentativi figurano "Where Dead Stars Gather", "Night's Blood" e "The Path to Enslavement". L'album di debutto "Reinkaos" (1996) è considerato un classico del genere, seguito da "Storm of the Light's Bane" (2000). Nel 2006 la band si scioglie a causa del suicidio di Jon Nodtveidt.
