Benny Goodman (1909-1986) è stato un clarinettista, compositore e bandleader statunitense considerato uno dei pionieri del jazz moderno. Nato a Chicago da una famiglia ebrea, Goodman iniziò a suonare il clarinetto all'età di sette anni. Dopo aver suonato in diverse orchestre locali, nel 1934 formò la sua famosa orchestra, che divenne rapidamente un punto di riferimento per il jazz swing. Goodman fu uno dei primi artisti a portare il jazz al grande pubblico, grazie ai suoi concerti sold-out e alle sue registrazioni popolari.
