James Murphy è un musicista, produttore discografico e DJ statunitense, noto soprattutto come fondatore del gruppo LCD Soundsystem. Nato a New York nel 1967, Murphy ha iniziato la sua carriera musicale negli anni '90 come DJ e produttore per diverse etichette indipendenti. Nel 2002 ha formato il gruppo LCD Soundsystem, che ha rapidamente raggiunto un grande successo con l'album di debutto omonimo del 2005. Il sound del gruppo, caratterizzato da synth-pop, dance-punk e rock alternativo, ha conquistato critica e pubblico, portando a una serie di album di successo come "Sound of Silver" (2007) e "This Is Happening" (2010). Dopo un primo scioglimento nel 2011, LCD Soundsystem si è riunito nel 2015 con l'album "American Dream", che ha consolidato il loro status di band leggendaria. Oltre al suo lavoro con LCD Soundsystem, Murphy ha collaborato con artisti come David Byrne e The Strokes, producendo anche album per diverse etichette discografiche.
