Tankard ist eine deutsche Thrash-Metal-Band aus Frankfurt am Main, die 1982 gegründet wurde. Nach dem Verlust ihres Gitarristen aufgrund ihres Images als Gruppe von Alkoholikern veröffentlichten sie 1986 ihr erstes Album. Seitdem produzieren sie kontinuierlich Songs und Alben im gleichen Stil wie zu Beginn: schnelle Metal-Songs in Ehren des Alkohols. Sie behaupten daher, einen neuen Genre namens „alcoholic metal“ erfunden zu haben. Tankard bezeichnen sich selbst als „Kings of Beer“ zu Ehren der folkloristischen Figur Gambrinus.
