Counting Crows ist eine amerikanische Rockband, die 1989 in Berkeley, Kalifornien, gegründet wurde. Ihr Sound zeichnet sich durch eingängige Melodien, nachdenkliche Texte und einen starken Folk-Rock-Einfluss aus. Nach Jahren der Auftritte in Clubs unterschrieb die Band 1993 bei Geffen Records. Ihr Debütalbum *August and Everything After* wurde dank des Singles «Mr. Jones» zum internationalen Erfolg und erreichte den Multi-Platin-Status. Der Erfolg brachte dem Frontmann Adam Duritz enorme Druck, was zu einer Nervenzusammenbruch führte. Diese schwierige Phase spiegelt sich in ihrem folgenden Album *Recovering the Satellites* (1996) wider.
