Grandaddy è stato un gruppo di indie rock originario di Modesto, in California. Attivo dal 1992 al 2006 e poi riunitosi sporadicamente, il gruppo ha guadagnato popolarità negli anni '90 grazie a un sound caratterizzato da atmosfere psichedeliche, influenze folk e una vena sperimentale. Il loro album di debutto, *Across the Universe*, riscosse successo critico nel 1997, seguito dal più popolare *The Sophtware Slump* del 2000, che includeva il singolo "He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's Got a Gun".
