Gene Francis Alan Pitney (17 febbraio 1940 – 5 aprile 2006) è stato un cantautore, musicista e ingegnere del suono statunitense. Considerato uno dei pilastri della musica pop degli anni '60, ha ottenuto un successo internazionale sia come interprete che come autore di canzoni. Pitney ha venduto milioni di dischi in tutto il mondo, con 16 singoli entrati nella Top 40 americana e 22 nella Top 40 britannica. Tra i suoi successi più noti figurano "Town Without Pity", "Only Love Can Break a Heart" e "It Hurts to Be in Love". Nel 2002 è stato introdotto nella Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Oltre alla sua carriera solista, Pitney ha scritto alcuni dei maggiori successi degli anni '60, tra cui "He's a Rebel" per The Crystals e "Hello Mary Lou" per Rick Nelson.
