Modern English ist eine britische Musikgruppe, die 1979 in Colchester, Essex, gegründet wurde. Die Gründungsmitglieder waren Robbie Grey (Gesang), Gary McDowell (Gitarre, Gesang) und Michael Conroy (Bass, Gesang). Ursprünglich bekannt als „The Lepers“, nahm die Gruppe den Namen Modern English an, nachdem Richard Brown (Schlagzeug) und Stephen Walker (Keyboard) hinzukamen. Ihr Post-Punk-Sound zeichnet sich durch eingängige Melodien und nachdenkliche Atmosphären aus, beeinflusst von Synthpop und New Wave. Internationale Bekanntheit erlangte die Band 1982 mit dem Single „I Melt With You“, der in mehreren Ländern die Top Ten erreichte.
