I Pernice Brothers sono un gruppo indie rock formatosi nel 1996 da Joe Pernice dopo lo scioglimento della sua precedente band, gli Scud Mountain Boys. Il nome deriva dal cognome dei fratelli Pernice, che comprendono anche Bob Pernice nella formazione. Il loro album di debutto, *Overcome by Happiness*, è stato pubblicato per Sub Pop nel 1998. Dopo una pausa di tre anni durante la quale Joe Pernice ha registrato sotto il suo nome e come Chappaquiddick Skyline, i Pernice Brothers sono tornati nel 2001 con *The World Won't End*. Dopo aver lasciato Sub Pop, l'album è stato pubblicato sull'etichetta indipendente di Pernice, Ashmont Records, co-fondata con la sua manager di lunga data Joyce Linehan.
