Suffocation è una band di death metal statunitense proveniente da Long Island, New York. Considerati uno dei pionieri del brutal death metal insieme a gruppi come Cannibal Corpse, hanno contribuito in modo significativo allo sviluppo del genere technical brutal death metal, influenzando anche lo slam brutal death metal e il deathcore con artisti come Dying Fetus e Cryptopsy. Formati nel 1988, Suffocation ha pubblicato una serie di album di successo, tra cui "Effigy of the Forgotten" (1996), considerato un classico del genere, e "Pierced from Within" (2004).
