The Roots ist eine amerikanische Hip-Hop-Gruppe, die 1987 in Philadelphia gegründet wurde. Die Gründungsmitglieder des Gruppens sind der Rapper Black Thought und der Schlagzeuger und Produzent Questlove, die im Laufe der Jahre mit verschiedenen Musikern, Sängern und MCs zusammengearbeitet haben. Als eine der einflussreichsten Gruppen der heutigen Hip-Hop-Szene gelten The Roots für ihre Musik, die durch einen jazzyen und funkigen Sound geprägt ist, oft ergänzt durch komplexe Arrangements und Live-Improvisationen. Neben der musikalischen Produktion hat sich die Gruppe auch durch energiegeladene und fesselnde Live-Auftritte hervorgetan. Seit 2014 fungieren The Roots als Hausband des Fernsehprogramms "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon". Zu ihren bekanntesten Songs gehören "You Got Me", "The Seed (2.0)" und "Mellow My Mind".
