Blue Cheer è stata una band americana di blues-rock psichedelico attiva a cavallo tra gli anni '60 e '70. Originari di San Francisco, sono considerati pionieri del heavy metal, grazie alla loro versione di «Summertime Blues», spesso citata come il primo brano del genere. Il nome della band deriva da un marchio di LSD, e furono promossi dal chimico Owsley Stanley, noto per la sua collaborazione con i Grateful Dead. Jim Morrison dei The Doors li definì «la band più potente che abbia mai visto». Oltre al heavy metal, Blue Cheer ha influenzato generi come il punk rock, lo stoner rock, il doom metal, l'experimental rock e il grunge.
