Jefferson Airplane war eine amerikanische Rockband, die 1965 in San Francisco, Kalifornien, gegründet wurde. Als Pionier der Psychedelic-Rock-Bewegung war Jefferson Airplane die erste Band aus der San-Francisco-Szene, die kommerziellen und kritischen Mainstream-Erfolg erreichte. Mit einem Sound, der sich durch eingängige Melodien, poetische Texte und den Einfluss des amerikanischen Folks angetrieben wurde, trugen sie zur Definition Ästhetik und Klangbild dieser Zeit bei. Zu ihren bekanntesten Songs gehören "Somebody to Love", "White Rabbit" und "Volunteers". Ihr Debütalbum (1966) und *Surrealistic Pillow* (1967), mit dem Hit "Somebody to Love", etablierten die Band als eine der wichtigsten des Psychedelic-Movements.
