Foetus ist das Hauptprojekt des Industrial-Musik-Pioniers J. G. Thirlwell. Bis 1995 durchlief die Band verschiedene Namensänderungen, alle mit dem Wort „foetus“. Zu den in verschiedenen Zeiten angenommenen Spitznamen gehören Foetus Under Glass, You've Got Foetus On Your Breath und Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel. Nach 1995 wurde der Name dauerhaft zu Foetus, obwohl 1997 das verwandte Projekt The Foetus Symphony Orchestra gegründet wurde und bis heute besteht. Thirlwell ist bekannt für seine experimentelle und provokative Musik, die oft düstere und kontroverse Themen erforscht. Seine Werke zeichnen sich durch einen rauen industriellen Sound, stampfende Rhythmen und verstörnende Texte aus. Zu den repräsentativsten Stücken von Foetus gehören „The Last Supper“, „I'm Not Your Baby“ und „Death Is A Woman“.
