These Arms Are Snakes waren ein Quartett aus Seattle, das sich dem progressiven/post-hardcore Genre verschrieben hatte. Sie waren von 2002 bis 2010 aktiv und veröffentlichten ihre Musik unter dem Label Suicide Squeeze Records. Die Band bestand aus ehemaligen Mitgliedern von Botch, Nineironspitfire und Kill Sadie (aus Minneapolis). Der Schlagzeuger und Produzent Chris Common stieß nach der Aufnahme ihres Debütalbums *Oxeneers or the Lion Sleeps When Its Antelope Go Home* zur Band hinzu. These Arms Are Snakes tourten mit Bands wie Minus the Bear, Big Business, Mastodon, Cursive, The Blood Brothers, Engine Down, Hot Water Music, Isis, Pelican, Chiodos und Against Me!. Zu den Mitwirkenden an *Oxeneers or the Lion Sleeps When Its Antelope Go Home* gehörten Mitglieder von Minus the Bear, Playing Enemy und The Blood Brothers. Die Band war für ihre intensiven Live-Shows bekannt, bei denen Sänger Steve Snere oft crowd surfte und einen Großteil der Performance im Publikum verbrachte.
