Chris Daughtry didn't win series 5 of American Idol, but his appearance in the final did earn him a contract with RCA, who then formed a band for him to front. The album was certified triple platinum (three million copies) in just seven months, making it one of the fastest-selling debut rock albums ever. Daughtry gigged relentlessly in 2007, supporting Nickelback and headlining their own tours. They have also been boosted by TV appearances, and the use of their songs on TV shows and commercials.
