Nello stesso anno della sua nascita la cantante si trasferì nel Regno Unito e frequentò la scuola a Londra. Rita ha iniziato a cantare in tenera età. Nel 2004 Ora ha debuttato come attrice interpretando un ruolo secondario nel film Spivs mentre nel 2009 ha debuttato come cantante partecipando alle audizioni dell' Eurovision Song Contest, riuscendo a qualificarsi ma non a partecipare all'evento. Nonostante il debutto come solista sia avvenuto nella citata occasione, nel 2007 aveva duettato con Craig David in Awkward mentre nel 2008 con Tinchy Stryder in Where's Your Love. Nel 2009 è stata finalmente notata dal rapper e produttore musicale Jay-Z e successivamente è apparsa nei video di Young Forever dello stesso Jay-Z e di Over di Drake. In seguito a ciò, Jay l'ha messa sotto contratto nella sua etichetta Roc Nation. Nel 2011 sono stati pubblicati dei video che la mostravano nell'atto di lavorare al suo debut album. In seguito è stato pubblicato il singolo di DJ Fresh Hot Right Now, brano interpretato dalla stessa cantante. Il singolo ha debuttato alla vetta della classifica del Regno Unito mentre il relativo video ufficiale ha avuto oltre 10 milioni di visualizzazioni su You Tube. Per il suo debut album la cantante ha collaborato con: Will.I.Am, Ester Dean, Drake, The-Dream, Tinie Tempah e Kanye West. A febbraio 2012 ha annunciato la pubblicazione dei singoli R.I.P in Europa e How We Do (Party) in USA. Il primo è stato pubblicato agli inizi di aprile insieme a relativo videoclip mentre il secondo sarà pubblicato a breve. Per quanto riguarda l'album, non si conosce ancora la data della sua pubblicazione.
